4.16. Printed cotton from Gujarat on the west coast of India that was excavated near the Cairo Geniza. Similar patterns have been found in Indonesia, suggesting a sophisticated production and trade in these textiles that spanned Asia. The earliest examples date from the twelfth century, the time of Abraham bin Yiju.
